WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING + MENTORING?
I think coaching is a term that can still cause a bit of uneasiness in the UK. Images of super enthusiastic, "let's do this!" types can seem intimidating. Or the feeling that you have to be in touch with a deeper, inner part of yourself that will offer up the answer to all of your questions, alongside a worry that you won't hear that answer over all the noise of every day life.
To me, coaching is about giving you a safe space to talk through your ideas in their current jumbled order, and asking questions to clarify those thoughts so you can bring them to life through simple daily tasks. Breaking down your plans into steps that work for you, throwing out the steps that take you in the wrong direction, and focussing on the ones that feel achievable, feel good and get you closer to your dream.
Mentoring compliments coaching in that I share advice and knowledge from my own years as a small business owner, covering everything from insurance and accounting (you know, the fun stuff), to branding, marketing and selling. If coaching helps you clarify what you want to create, and why, then mentoring is advising you on how to then put your creation into the world and build a business around it.
I have packages available for both approaches, and sometimes one may slightly overlap with the other depending on your needs. Either way, I am here to listen, to support, and to guide you toward the happy, creative life that you deserve.
WILL WE WORK WELL TOGETHER?
I hope so! You can read more about me here, but in a nutshell...
I am a chatty, friendly type who believes in the power of rest for productivity, and working with natural cycles in mind (whether that of your body or the seasons!). I am a good listener, care deeply about good people, and work hard to help them do good things.
DO YOU ONLY WORK WITH OTHER MOTHERS?
Not at all. I am passionate about supporting mothers on their journey back to creativity, and back to themselves, and feel I'm very well placed to do that because I was in that position myself. But I'm a woman first. I'm every woman. It's all in me.
My first clients have been a mix of women at different stages of their creative businesses, some have kids, some don't. Some came to me with a very specific idea of what they needed to work on, and some just knew they needed support bringing their ideas to life.
ARE YOU A QUALIFIED COACH?
Not yet, and this is reflected in my low prices. I am proudly studying towards my diploma with The Coaching Academy and hope to qualify by October 2019 at the latest. I'm confident in my learnings so far and my abilities to support you, but if you're not comfortable booking with an unqualified coach I completely appreciate that. We can either have a chat and pencil in a booking for October onwards, or I can work with you a mentoring capacity.
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
We'll begin with an introductory video call over a cuppa to get to know each other, and chat about your plans. This doesn't commit you to anything long term - it's more to check we're a fit personally. I shall ask you where you got your cardigan from, we'll go off on a bit of a tangent about the latest Netflix series, and then we'll remember we're here to talk about your dreams and we'll get down to business.
Once we hone in on what your intentions are I'll suggest a package for you, or offer something bespoke. Whether it's a single brainstorm session, a three month commitment or six - I'll take your current commitments and wellbeing into account and build something around you.
Calls are scheduled fortnightly for an hour and take place over Zoom video. I keep in touch with you by email between our chats so if anything comes up you're not waiting weeks to discuss it.
I know how scary it can be to invest in yourself like this, after putting someone else first. It is scary to commit to bringing your dreams to life. I'm a mother of two small, wild girls - sometimes life gets in the way of what we hope to do. I simply ask that you give our calls your full attention, and be honest about what is working for you and what isn't. I will always be flexible with you, and I will always support you.
THAT'S ALL VERY NICE, BUT HOW MUCH IS IT?
DO YOU WORK IN THE EVENING?
I try not to. Again, I blame the children but you just wouldn't get me at my best in the evening.
I am mainly available Tuesday and Wednesdays, between school runs, but also have limited early morning weekend slots which will be booked on a first come, first served basis.
DO YOU OFFER A TOP UP OPTION, IF I WANT TO KEEP WORKING TOGETHER FOR LONGER?
Yes, if you want to continue working together we can either discuss and book a follow up package or you can book on a pay-as-you-go basis at my hourly rate.
